Doctor by the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela with the thesis Delincuencia femenina e intervención pedagógica un estudio sobre la cuestión en Galicia 1995. Supervised by Dr. Miguel Anxo Santos Rego.

Degree in Philosophy and Education from the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC) (1991), where she obtained her doctorate in 1995 with a thesis entitled ‘Female delinquency and educational intervention. A study of the problem in Galicia’. She has been a university professor in the Department of Pedagogy and Didactics since 2022. Her research areas are: intercultural education and pedagogy, work pedagogy, prison pedagogy, family education and service learning and competences in higher education. She has published 18 books and contributed to numerous book chapters (40). She is the author of more than 70 articles in national and international journals, including European Journal of Education, Intercultural Education, Evaluation and Program Planning, Mediterranean Journal of Education, Revista Portuguesa de Pedagogía, MAGIS. Revista Internacional de Investigación en Educación, Bordón, Revista de Educación, Revista Española de Pedagogía, Revista de Investigación Educativa, Cultura y Educación, Educación XX1, Teoría de la Educación, Psicothema, Frontiers in Psychology, Revista Iberoamericana de Educación or Anales de Psicología. She is a member of the ESCULCA Research Group of the USC (Competitive Reference Group of the Galician R+D+I System), which won the 1st National Prize for Educational Research 2007 with the project "Immigrant families in Galicia: the socio-educational dimension of integration" (SEJ2004-05967), of which she was the principal investigator. In addition, the Group won the third National Research Prize in 2003 with a project, in which she participated as a researcher, on Cooperative Learning in Educational Centres. It also received the third edition of the María Barbeito Prize for Educational Research in Galicia for the work "School performance of students with a migrant background in Galicia. An Optimisation Program for Families and Schools". She is a member of the RIES Network (Xunta de Galicia) and the Network of Excellence "University, Innovation and Learning in the Knowledge Society" (Ministry of Science and Innovation). She has supervised 11 doctoral theses and has contributed to the initiation and development of the research careers of new university teachers and professionals from other levels of education. She has been a researcher in more than 20 projects funded by competitive calls (regional, national, and European) and administrative contracts. She is an evaluator for various regional, national, and international agencies. She has participated in numerous international congresses, especially those of the EERA. She has been Head of the Educational Research Department at the Institute of Educational Sciences (ICE), Vice Rector for Cultural Extension and Services to the University Community (4 years), Vice Rector for Equality, Culture and Services (4 years) and Coordinator of the Doctoral Program in Education at the same University. She has been Deputy Director of the Revista Galega do Ensino, Director of the UNESCO Chair in Culture of Peace and Human Rights, and UNED Consultant at the Teixeiro Prison (A Coruña). She has received four (4) six-year research grants (1995-2000, 2000-2006, 2006-2012 and 2013-2018) and one (1) transfer grant from the National Commission for the Evaluation of Research Activities (CNEAI). She is currently Dean of the Faculty of Education of the USC.
