Doctor by the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela with the thesis La pintura barroca en Galicia 1620-1750 1995. Supervised by Dr. José Manuel García Iglesias.

Full professor of Art History at the University of Santiago de Compostela. Previously, he was a full professor at the University of A Coruña. He has been dean of the Faculty of Geography and History of the USC between 2008 and 2016 and director of the Department of Art History of the USC between 2003 and 2008 and 2016 and 2021. He has also been president of the Commission for the elaboration of the Statutes of the University of Santiago de Compostela between 2009 and 2012. He has also coordinated the Interuniversity Master's Degree in Architectural and Artistic Heritage Management, Museums and The Art Market of the universities of Santiago and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. He is currently coordinator of the doctoral program in History, Geography and History of Art, as well as coordinator of the Iacobus (Gi-1907) research group at USC. His teaching and research work revolves around the modern era in Galicia, as well as iconographic studies and the protection and management of cultural heritage. As a lecturer and guest professor he has participated in postgraduate programs in different Spanish, European and American universities.
