Doctor by the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela with the thesis Soluciones para la computación eficiente en sistemas basados en lógica borrosa 1994. Supervised by Dr. Senén Barro.

I am a Full Professor of Artificial Intelligence and coordinator of the Intelligent Systems Group (GSI)‚ founded in 1990 and recognized as a competitive reference group by the Xunta de Galicia since 2006. My research areas are focused on different areas of artificial intelligence and its applications‚ such as natural language generation (Data-To-Text systems)‚ soft computing‚ automatic learning and approximate knowledge and reasoning representation. I am co-author of almost 230 scientific papers on these subjects. Furthermore, I have participated in more than 63 R&D projects and contracts for innovation and transfer‚ and I have been a principal researcher in 25 of them. I have also participated in scientific dissemination projects, and I am a member of several research thematic networks, including the recently granted CiTIUS-leaded TELSEC4TAI network about "Trustworthy AI: technical, ethical, legal, cultural and socio-economic challenges." I have been Deputy Director of the School of Engineering of the University of Santiago de Compostela (ETSE). I am currently a Board Member of the Spanish Society for Artificial Artificial Intelligence (AEPIA), Secretary of the Sociedad Spanish Society for Natural Language Processing (SEPLN), and member of the Organizing Committee of the “27th European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (ECAI)” which will take place in Santiago de Compostela on September 2024. At an academic level, I am the coordinator the BSc in Artificial Intelligence taught in the three universities in Galicia.
