Abstract

The objective of this study was to assess the disposition of students towards diversity based on age and gender, in 5th and 6th grade primary school students. For this, the Attitudes Scale towards Students with Disabilities in Physical Education (EAADEF) was applied. A total of 177 Primary Education students (93 boys (52.5%) and 84 girls (47.5%); Average = 10.70, SD = 0.47) from 4 educational centers in the province of A Coruña participated in the study. The results obtained showed statistically significant differences in attitudes towards diversity based on gender in the items "I would avoid doing class work with a person with a disability" (p = 0.049); "For my team I would avoid a person with a disability" (p = 0.034) and on the global scale (p = 0.047). Regarding age, statistically significant differences were only found in the item “I would avoid doing class work with a person with a disability” (p = 0.034). In general, the girls participating in this research show a more favorable attitude and disposition towards diversity than boys, although their scores are also low. Regarding age, it can be said that older students have a greater disposition towards diversity than their younger peers.
