Resumo

In Costa Rica a structure of management for the Protected Geographic Indications does not exist and the Costa Rican legislation incorporated, for the first time, regulations on denominations of origin in the Law of Marks and other distinguishing signs of February of 2000, but without contributing very ample dispositions on the matter. The present article tries to demonstrate the great potentiality of this system, by study the product “chesse of Turrialba”, from the specifications of the technical raglamentación elaborated to fulfill the requirements of the Denomination of Origin (Sheet of Conditions), the necessary investments and the new operating expenseses for the transformation of the sector have been considered. It fulfills to emphasize that this is the first product studied with detail to obtain the denomination of origin for the inner market of Costa Rica, and by the potentiality of the system it can be transformed into a clear aid for the rural development of the zone.
