Abstract
Philosophical erudition is one thing and philosophical life is quite another. One is a scholar when one uses the explanatory mode of reasoning; one is a philosopher when one returns to the intuitive mode. To philosophize, therefore, is not to accept the descriptions and explanations of philosophers by mere argument of authority, but to repeat their experience parting from the original insights on which this experience was based.
