Abstract

Beekeeping has historically been a relevant activity in rural areas. As a result of the importance of traditional beekeeping, known as fixist beekeeping, there are several heritage elements related to beekeeping. Under this premise, the present work makes an approach to this existing beekeeping heritage, having as geographical scope for the research the rural territories of Galicia and Asturias. The main objective of this work is to characterize the main existing elements in these geographical areas. For this purpose, the existing literature has been reviewed and participatory research processes have been carried out with rural agents. Through the research process, a typology of beekeeping heritage elements has been made, among which are the traditional beehives, the alvarizas, the talameiros, the lacenas, the wax presses and the wax whiteners. Finally, the article shows some positive examples of recovery of heritage elements developed in recent years.
