Resumo

The cultivation of spiritual life can and should be present in the teaching of values. Values such as care and support, for example, are fundamental not only in normal life situations, but especially in critical situations. However, nowadays spirituality cannot be defined in a single way, and it certainly cannot be confined to religious life. What can be understood today by spirituality must necessarily refer to the cultivation of values related to the meaning of life in all its aspects. Such values are truth, duty, the fruition of reality, etc. Cultivating the spiritual life will therefore consist in the cultivation or enjoyment of these values, sometimes called intrinsic, while leaving in the background precisely the technical or instrumental values, which are usually the most appreciated in normal situations. It is only the spiritual or intrinsic values that can provide life with its true content nowadays. Experiencing fully these values, the highest in the scale of values, means providing human beings with an authentic identity
