Resumo
The objective of this article is to analyze the commission of silversmithing works of the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela throughout the nineteenth century and determine which official silversmiths worked for the factory in that century, as well as the general characteristics of the position, its official degree and the particularities of their work. The sources have been the administrative documents of the archive —proof of accounts, daily books and factory books— as well as chapter minutes and inventories of jewelry, which have been analyzed from 1790 to 1925. Regarding to our research, we start from the premise of a comparison between a first half of the century marked by economic hardship and a second half of recovery that will culminate in the prosperous context of the second apostolic inventio. In this way we have been able to relate the historical context with the frequency and magnitude of silverware commissions, to contextualize in a documentary form some emblematic works such as the apostolic urn (1884-1886) or the Pilgrim Santiago of the chapel of the Relics (1896), as well as numerous pieces of frequent use
