Resumo

This work delves into the conditions for the acceptance of shellfish poaching in Esteiro-Muros, A Coruña. The contextual variables that modulate the permissiveness of shellfish poaching have been identified and analyzed. also is has studied how the combination of reasons for poaching and poacher’s profiles influences the degree of acceptance of poaching in the target community. It is concluded that tolerance of poaching and the granting of informal rights to access and withdraw the shellfish resources occur only occasionally. when it happens, the informal property rights are reserved for community people who act for specific reasons, mainly when they work out of need or for self-consumption. it is also observed that the acceptance of poaching serves as community protection.
