Abstract

The guilds of Santiago de Compostela played a vital role in the social and urban development of the city since its foundation, and participated actively in the public festivities. Among them, we want to highlight the procession of Corpus Christi, a highly hierarchical feast in which the guilds played a very important role. Through an analysis of Municipal Archive documents, we will establish the common elements of the festivities of the Corpus Christi in Galicia, focusing on those which took place in Santiago. In this way, we will present an approach to one of the most exalted personal and represen-tational manifestations of the Baroque, the public celebration of the Eucharist.
