Resumo

A pyrenean section has been studied in order to search for a relationship between magnetic fabric (AMS) and deformation. The section, which is normal to the main ESE-WNW macrostructures, comprises materials from Devonian to Eocene (seven stations, with a total of 52 cores). It has been observed that in the internal zone of the chain the K1 AMS axis is parallel to the tectonic transport direction, and is transversal to the major structures. In the external zone, however, it is parallel tothe major structures. These results indicate that the magnetic lineation may be due to shearing during thrusting in the internal zone, and to flexural folding in the external one. This work stresses the utility of AMS in structural analysis.
