Abstract

People of the LGBT+ collective have historically been discriminated against by a heteronormative system that does not conceive of any option that goes beyond the established limits. This social exclusion becomes particularly dangerous at the stage of adolescence and youth, in which bullying plays a relevant role. The main objectives of this study were: on the one hand, the analysis of the current attitude of teachers and future teachers of the Autonomous Community of Galicia toward gender and sexuality diversity; and on the other, to explore the relationship between the different psychopathological characteristics evaluated by the Symptom Assessment-45 Questionnaire and homophobia and transphobia. For this, a questionnaire was prepared, consisting of three tests, which was applied to 1314 teachers and future teachers of the Autonomous Community of Galicia. Through the analysis of the results obtained, it was concluded that homophobia and transphobia correlated with toxic masculinity, religiosity and political orientation, and that teachers in training are more sensitized to gender and sexuality diversity than those who are active.
