Resumo

In this collective work, seventeen specialists in phraseology and translation treat the problem of translating phraseological units from one language to another. They are specialists in several languages (Spanish, French, English, German etc.) and their common goal is to demonstrate that an appropriate equivalent in the target language can be found for each phraseological unit. With this objective in mind, they propose diverse techniques in order to offer resources for the translation process of phraseological units. Thanks to the deployment of these techniques, professionals in translation are able to resolve one of the main problems that they face day by day. The most important problem that translating phraseological units from one language to another usually presents is that of finding an appropriate equivalent in the target language. This fundamental topic is debated by the seventeen specialists that take part in the collective work at hand. It is with this end in mind that they pose diverse techniques in order to demonstrate that finding such an appropriate equivalent depends not only on the skill of the translator, but also on his battle-hardened experience in the art of managing the techniques adapted to the characteristics of this type of unit. Thanks to the deployment of the resources offered in this work on the translation process for phraseological units, both the specialist in phraseology as well as the professional in translation are able to find answers that will convince them that the idiosyncratic character of the phraseology of a language and its cultural aspects does not impede its translation.
