Zusammenfassung

Abstract In common feeling, people over 65 (over 65) are routinely labeled as carriers of digital divide. The analysis of the data, however, shows that with the passing of time and the succession of generations, the digital divide between them has decreased. It was found, moreover, that those over 65 who use the new media have a high self-esteem. This doctoral research had as main objective to verify the self-esteem of people over 65 who use the Internet and new media, with a numerically significant sample of 206 people aged 65 to 81 years. They were selected by sociodemographic variables, age, gender, education level, household composition, marital status, cohabitation situation etc., correlated with the degree of self-esteem. Data collection was performed using: I) a socio-demographic questionnaire composed of open and closed questions, II) a self-esteem scale (Rosenberg Self-Esteem, RSES Scale). The statistical surveys on the questionnaires were carried out using the Google form software, Excel and SPSS (version 20). The analyzes were conducted with the objective to consider the metric nature of the test's variables. In conclusion of our empirical study, it can be argued that the information collected from the sample confirm the starting assumption, namely that those over 65 are getting closer and closer without hesitation to the new media, and that those who use them show to have a higher average self-esteem.
