Relación entre a contracción volumétrica e as súas compoñentes lineais na madeira de carballo (Quercus robur) procedente de Galicia

Abstract

Shrinkage and shrinkage coefficients of wood from Quercur robur were assessed under varying moisture conditions and referred to volume and to radial, tangential and axial directions. The variables were measured on 335 small defect-free specimens sampled from 8 oak trees growing in Galicia. Highly significant relationships between radial or tangential shrinkage and volumetric shrinkage were found. The coefficient of determination (R2) was 0.55** between radial and volumetric shrinkage, and R2 was 0.78 ** between radial shrinkage coefficient and volumetric shrinkage coefficient. As regards tangential shrinkage, the relationship with volumetric shrinkage yielded a R2 of 0.75 **, while the model that linked the tangential shrinkage coefficient and the volumetric shrinkage coefficient yielded a R2 of 0.77 **. The models that best described the relationships between shrinkages were the linear without a regression constant, and were the cubic models in the case of shrinkage coefficients
