Abstract

In recent years, the use of magnetic nanoparticles in the biomedical and technologycal fields has allowed the solution of certain problems associated with traditionals methods and practices. In this work, several nanostructured magnetic systems with different dimensions, morphologies, compositions and coatings were designed. Then, this nanosystems were characterized, analyzing the variation of their properties after modify their physico-chemical characteristics; and studying their colloidal stability under different conditions simulating the physiological environment and their behavior in in vitro model biological media (cell cultures). Finally, the potential applications of magnetic nanomaterials in different areas was analyzed, mainly in the biomedical fields of hyperthermia and magnetic resonance imaging and in the purification of water contaminated with heavy metals.
