Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this investigation was to check if there were changes in the knowledge about first aid in Primary Education pupils in Physical Education lessons, and if it is kept for a time, when it is applied to a training programme through an audiovisual method. Methodology: The aimed population was composed by 98 children of a total of 102 pupils of 5º and 6º level of Primary Education. In order to know the level of their previous knowledge, an Ad Hoc questionnaire with 21 questions used and later, a short film about cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), was seen. Next the questionnaire was handed out again to test the level of the acquired knowledge and after a month, the data collection was made again. The data analysis was through a statistical programme IBM SPSS V 20.0. Results: The results showed that 86,7% of pupils had not received any training about first aid. However, 68,4% children knew the compression depth of chest, 83,7% the compression rhythm, 24,5% DESA proceeding, and 99% the emergency number. After a month, these results were similar. Conclusión: Therefore, it could be shown that the audiovisual training programme about CPR and AED is efficient and that pupils acquired knowledge.
