Resumo

The game of skittles is one of the most commonly practiced ancestral pastime games in the Coruñan town of Boiro, thats today is in practice thanks to the support of the Municipal Sports Service and from efforts of the players themselves. The support of the media is crucial to raise awareness and inform the public of the promotion that is currently going on for the game of skittles in the area. Using a qualitative methodology, we make use of personal interviews to learn firsthand the techniques that the media employs to reach the greatest number of people, and to see how treatment that skittles receives in the media can be used in collaboration with efforts to revive and promote the game of skittles in Boiro. The study results highlight the shortage of skittles related media, while the media favors articles about more mainstream sports and those where the regularity of competitions provides a framework of constant generation of news to be told by the media.
