Personalidad parental, prácticas educativas y problemas de conducta infanto-juvenil

Parenting practices have been traditionally considered as important ingredients in the risk/protection processes for behavioural problems and psychosocial adjustment. Nevertheless, surprisingly little is known about what the determinants of such practices; particularly, this study is focused on personality traits. The main objective is to examine how parent personality, parental practices and behavioural problems (both internalizing and externalizing) are associated. To achieve this objective, 127 families participated in this study, and data were collected through self-reports and rating scales by parents and teachers. In general terms, the results show the relevance of personality to understand parent-children relationships, and also show the connections between parenting practices and behavioural problems. Additionally, parent personality is also related to behavioural problems, and these relations seem to be largely independent of parenting practices.
