Abstract

Objective. To analyse and compare the notifications made by Primary Care (PC) and Hospital Care professionals in Galicia (Spain), in the Patient Safety Notification and Learning System (SiNASP), of the Ministry of Health of Spain. Method. This is a descriptive study of the notifications made in AP and AH, between October 2013 and December 2019, at SiNASP, in Galicia. The data are presented using absolute and relative frequencies. To contrast the relationship between different variables, the Chi-square test was used. Results. Of the total number of notifications, 15,926 (89.5%) were made from AH. In PC, the largest number of notifications were made by physicians and in AH by nursing staff. Medication incidents, and within them, those due to inadequate dosage, were the most frequent in both healthcare settings. The incident reached the patient more frequently in PC, although the damage caused was less serious. The percentages of high risk (SAC1) were similar at both levels. Conclusions. Incident reports in primary care and health care have many similarities, but also differences. Although they are less frequent at the primary care level, they often reach the patient and can potentially cause significant harm.
