Abstract

We are aware that the Anthropocene produces ruins. However, ruins enclose memory and unrealized possibilities, which cannot be addressed by the concepts and strategies nowadays deployed to mitigate environmental crises. This article takes on the need to rethink these concepts and their applications from the collaboration between art, science and philosophy and towards a future beyond devastation. Concretely, we introduce a new approach beyond the traditional distinction between native and invasive plants and towards understanding the becoming of theses companion species embedded in complex eco-social networks. Departing from botanical research in two interstitial spaces produced by human activities - the pavement of the city centre of Santiago de Compostela and the industrial area of Porto -, we propose interventions from different fields of action that involve humans and non-humans in the joint endeavour of recovering a possible future.
