Abstract
The COVID-19 confinement forced the revision of many of the methodological assumptions of social research, traditionally linked to face-to-face contexts. This paper reflects on different dilemmas that arose as I moved towards digitally mediated research. The text explores how confined contexts blur the dichotomies of “private” and “public” when analyzing digital empirical material. Furthermore, the paper discusses how the emergence of contingencies forces us to resolve dilemmas during research, which challenges punctual consent protocols.
