Abstract
An incipient cultural system can make up for its possible deficiencies, and can also guarantee its legitimacy, autonomy and expansion by resorting to a consolidated cultural system which acts as a support of its owm objectives against its opposing referent. In the case which concerns us, which constitutes a vital period for the consolidation of galeguismo and its theoretical apparatus, those groups that defend a Galician cultural sovereigny turn to the Portuguese system on the basis of a common identity, and forward the reintegration of the Galician system into the setting- up of a Portuguese-Galician intercultural system. In that specific process, some Portuguese scholars played a decisive role.
