Abstract

In this article, we will present a study of the royal inheritance when there is doubt over the queen's legitimacy and her reign is in crisis. We will use the case of Leonor of Castile, who was Queen of Aragon, to exemplify this phenomenon. The analysis will consider how the queen's patrimony was utilized to strip her of a key aspect of her authority and resources, as well as examining the process of damnatio memoriae that she endured. These factors will be used to assess the legality of the royal action and the corresponding legal protection of the monarch. Finally, we will assess her financial ability and compare it to that of her husband, King Alfonso, to comprehend the significance of the regional resources.
