Resumo

Industrial applications of photogrammetry usuallyinvolve the detection of targets placed on thesurfaces of objects. Typical targets presentcircular shapes, which under perspectivedistortion can be well approximated by anelliptical contour. In this paper we present asolution for the detection of circular targets, basedon a new technique for radial symmetry detection. At a given scale, radial symmetry is defined as theproduct of a set of oriented features, so that onlyregions of space with contributions from allorientations will have strong responses. Amultiresolution measure is obtained as themaximum over a set of scales. This operatordetects both circular and elliptical regions andpresents a sharper point spread function comparedto other detectors
