Abstract

The fight against IUU fishing is carried out mainly through processes of international cooperation focused on improving the monitoring mechanisms for extractive activity and controlling the commercialization of catches. However, a secondary element of this process is the implementation of the ban on subsidies contributing to IUU fishing. The recent WTO Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies regulates the scope and characteristics of this prohibition.
