Resumo
In the upcoming decades, the challenges that maritime security will face are mainly three. The first challenge is the increase and intensification of human activities in the marine environment. The second is linked to the tension between the expansion of State sovereignty in maritime spaces and the protection of high seas. The third is related to the increasing number of actors (emerging States, large powers and non-state actors), with conflicting interests that are likely to make the sea a privileged scenario of geopolitical competition in the current century.
