Resumo

This doctoral dissertation is a sociodialectal study about the agricultural lexicón in the region of the Alpujarra in Granada, Spain. Specifically, this research focuses on the study of the agricultural lexical vitality of ten villages from this region (Bérchules, Murtas, Mairena, Capileira, Órgiva, Pórtugos, Trevélez, Albuñol, Gualchos and Lújar) using the same surveys that Alvar used in the mid-twentieth century for the Atlas Lingüístico y Etnográfico de Andalucía volume I. This study covers an interval of half a century, from the 50s and 60s of the 20th century to the second decade of the 21st century. Compared to Alvar´s research where only one informant per village is studied, in our doctoral dissertation we include informants from all three generations (young, adult and elderly people) in each locality. In our investigation we analyse the 240 words and expressions compiled in volume I of the Atlas Lingüístico y Etnográfico de Andalucía. The research is divided into a double analysis: quantitative and qualitative. From the quantitative point of view, we study the type of answer and the type of knowledge (direct or active and indirect or passive); we also analyse the type of vitality. We also investigate the level of knowledge in each semantic field and subfield. Regarding the qualitative analysis, we describe word by word each answer given by the informants in each village. We also explain the reason why those answers are obtained. Due to all the above, this research aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the agricultural lexicon in the Alpujarra of Granada.
