Resumo

Through the study of the medieval Castilian pontificals currently preserved, this paper analyses the presence, incidence and typology of their promoter's identity elements and examines the historical and historiographical problems posed by such devices, mainly heraldic. In this way, it proposes new reflections on the role and integration of these liturgical books in the building strategies of their owners' memory as members of the upper ecclesiastical hierarchy and, above all, of the social, cultural and political elite in the medieval Castile.
