Abstract

The present work investigates the configuration of an inevitable and a contradictory figure of the Arthurian narrative in verse, whereas Keu shows some behaviors, which are susceptible of degrading the perfection of a literary universe governed by an essentially irreproachable institution. With this purpose, we approach the reinterpretations of this character in a defined corpus of texts, from the specificity of medieval poetics, based on the principle of the recreation of a materia treated by a previous person. Through the study of the actions, most of them unsuccessful, consubstantial to the figure of Keu, in the wander, fight, say courteous, love and serve, we try to understand the treatment that the successors of Chrétien de Troyes have provided to the blunders of King Arthur’s seneschal, and therefore to the paradox that he embodies in fiction. In this way, it should assess the re-elaborations that this reference character of the Arthurian world generates in a discursive modality, already close to exhaustion in the 13th century, confronted with of the emergence of Arthurian prose
