Abstract
The ecotoxic effects of selenium have been reported .in some locations. Although selenium, like most elements, has potenc1al for accumulating to toxic amounts, it is an essential trace mineral for animal growth and reproduction. Low natural selenium content in forages requires livestock diets to be selenium supplemented for proper metabolism, growth and survival, and this supplementation can be a potential source of contamination.
