Abstract

Single-parent families are the group of households that has grown the most in recent years. Among them, many are single-parent families ab initio, which means that their structure is like this from its very conception and not due to unexpected circumstances, and the vast majority are headed by woman. However, this is a family model that is barely regulated by law. In the last five years, improvements have been glimpsed, but they vary considerably between Autonomous Communities and even between court decisions in similar cases. In Galicia, Article 40 of Law 5/2021, of February 2, on demographic promotion, provides for the approval of a plan to support single-parent families. In this paper, we will analyze both this and other recent regulations.
