Resumo

The transfer of knowledge from universities through firms, called as university spin-off (SOU), has gained the interest of researchers during the last two decades. Their study has been approached from three dimensions: individual, institutional, and contextual. This article focused on the institutional view, examining the relation of institutional characteristics of the universities, whit main campus in Antioquia, Santander and Norte de Santander, and the creation of SOU. Four variables are considered sources of founding, patents, and specific regulations whit which the analysis shows a positive association.
