Abstract
Among the healing miracles recounted in the Cantigas de Santa Maria, a miracle about the resurrection of a little mule (CSM 178) and a miracle of healing in extremis of an older mule from gout (CSM 228) can be found. Such prodigies, whose model would seeem to be absent in the more traditional Marian miracles, have instead interesting parallels in a local Portuguese tradition and in some miracles attributed to St Faith of Agen, venerated in the Occitan sanctuary of Conques, an important pilgrimage destination in Medieval Europe. This study aims to clarify the similarities and the differences between this hagiographic tradition, written down first by the author and religious man Bernard of Angers (1013-1020) and the Marian collection compiled by the sovereign Alfonso X and his collaborators
