Zusammenfassung

The following paper shows historical research of the evolution in two spaces connected with the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. It is done from a different point of view, with respect to what was said at the time: through of the specific study of two staircases, which are converted in main axis of these squares: Quintana and Platerías. Stairs serve not only as a functional element, connector of heights and the streets, but also as an object with an artistic component, surrounded by monumental buildings. Finally staircase, next to Santiago Apostle mausoleum, as a memory of Monte Sacro, changes into a full symbolic element.
