Abstract

The knowledge transmitted by classical authors on the priesthood of the Vestals in Ancient Rome explained the fact that the chroniclers of Indies, and especially in the chronicles of the Perú, the figure of the Vestals had been used as a comparative element to the religious cults of the Inca Civilization, demonstrating the transcendence of classical heritage. In this article, we analyze —from classical sources and the Chronicles of Indies— this classical legacy reflected on some Chronicles of the Perú between the mid-16th century and the mid-17th century.
