Abstract

Serra do Candán oakwood is an irregular forest with 134,7 ha and with a density upper to 1.500 trees/ha. Its traditional development was the thin out of the best ones and the extraction of firewood. There isn't any profit method changing intention. Because of Quercus robur is the only species in the mountain, and it is a middle light species, not a shadow or middle shadow one, it would not be posible aply a thin out pure treatment with action tree by tree. Then, the only posible action is a thin out by small wood. The Liocourt biological criterion is the organization one proposed. With it the oakwood balance curve is tried to reach suposing constant the tree number decrease rate from one diametric clase to the following.
