Abstract

This study were carried out in nine 6-18 years old Eucalyptus globulus plantations from NW of Spain. The nutrient level and their accumulation in different fractions of the above-ground tree biomass, soil humus layer and mineral horizons were determined. The results show that the amounts of P, K, Ca and Mg accumulated in tree biomass of mature plantations were higher that the soil available amounts of these elements. In the mature plantations, the logging residues made up the 25% of the biomass weight, although accumulated most of the N, P, K, Ca and Mg contained in the biomass and more than 30% of P, Ca and Mg of forest system. Similarly, the soil organic horizon of the mature plantations constitutes an important reserve of limiting elements for forest production, specially for elements such as P, Ca and Mg.
