Abstract

La Grande Obra de Atocha is an institution set up in 1923 in A Coruña, which has the aim of giving tools to society to improve its life quality. In this school, there is place for all people but especially for women and children. The founder, Baltasar Pardal, not only is a sensitive person towards the current events but also persistent in looking for options and solutions. In 1927, he opens a section, within the educational institution, that is called Women’s Popular University (Universidad Popular Femenina), with the main objective of promoting women in society.
