Perspectiva de género en el autocultivo de cannabis a pequeña escala

Abstract

Domestic cannabis cultivation is mostly considered a masculine practice; however, cannabis use and small-scale cannabis cultivation are emerging in female population. Therefore, a comparison between women and men consumption patterns and clinical consequences derived from cannabis use was carried out by a field study. As for this, a sociodemographic and consumption patterns questionnaires, and cannabis problematic use (CPQ), cannabis dependence (SDS), cannabis abuse (CAST), and nicotine (FTND) and alcohol (AUDIT) dependence scales were applied to 251 homegrowers (182 men and 69 women), with ages ranging from 18 to 54 years (M = 27.39, DT = 6.29). Results showed that both gender groups exhibit a similar consumption pattern, that is, a daily cannabis use and a combination of cannabis and legal drugs in a recreational context. Clinically, both women and men inform of a problematic cannabis use, and similar levels of cannabis and alcohol dependence. Moreover, data showed a convergence amongst women and men (feminization of drugs use) in consumption indicators which imply a higher chance of cannabis use disorder. Implications of the results for prevention police, and treatment of the cannabis use disorder are discussed
