Abstract

The prevalence of WSLs during treatment with fixed orthodontics, and once the braces and other attachments have been removed, is high, with no clear guidelines for the prevention and management of these injuries. There is a wide methodology in these studies, which makes comparisons difficult, as well as obtaining conclusive results. A review of the literature has been carried out in order to establish an action guide for the prevention and treatment of White Spot Lesions (LMBs) in patients with fixed orthodontics based on the current published evidence. Agents that pursue the remineralization of LMBs would be the first option at a clinical level, since in a high percentage of cases they manage to stop their progression or even to disappear, being a non-invasive procedure. These remineralizing agents would be indicated both during orthodontic treatment to prevent the appearance of WSLs and to manage them if they appear and, once the brackets have been removed.
