Abstract
The purpose of this work is to know how young women who decide to start a business in rural areas perceive and interpret their transit process to entrepreneurship. More specifically, it is about investigating what meaning they have attributed to their professional career and what factors have conditioned it from a gender perspective. In order to approach this reality, a qualitative methodology has been used through in-depth interviews with six women with univer- sity degrees, who have started a business in the Galician and Catalan rural areas. The transit experiences of these new agents clearly show a change in rural entre- preneurship, that considers the social and environmental wellbeing. The gender dimension is still conditioning the entrepreneurial initiatives in rural areas. It is clear that the gender approach gives answers to the choices that women make as well as to the obstacles they have to face.
