Abstract

The context of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) promotes the development of innovative teaching methodologies like service-learning. The service-learning experience Dual Sensory Loss in Older Adults is carried out in the Degree in Optics and Optometry of the University of Santiago de Compostela (curse 2019/20). It consists of the development of clinical practice with older residents (with limited resources) and older people attending AGADEA (Galician Association of Assistance to Patients with Alzheimer’s Dementias). The service-learning activity responds to a real social need: high number of subjects with untreated vision and hearing problems. 10 students come into contact with their future profession, acquiring and developing curricular skills. Likewise, the activity contributes to their training as citizens.
