Abstract

Glutathione S-Transferases are hetero- or homodimeric biotransformation enzymes that can be assigned to four families on the basis of different characteristics as structure and substrate specificity. The aim of the present work was to purificate and characterize the cytosolic Glutathione S-Transferases from rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) liver in order to use them in biomonitoring of xenobiotics. By using affinity-chromatography, HPLC and electrophoresis, five different subunits were isolated, which molecular weights allowed to identify them as alpha and pi classes.
