Abstract

This paper analyzes the results of a research project that had as main purpose to meet the educational possibilities of social networks in the field of secondary education. Specifically, the study (quantitative and nonexperimental) was held in the city of A Coruña and was attended by 1,144 students from fourth year of ESO, to which was applied a questionnaire prepared ad hoc. More specifically, the aim was to inquire about the potential that social networks can make in the field of school education, considering that these are tools that can assist in the development of processes of communication, collaboration and relationship among students. Among the main results, it can be noted that more than half of the students (52.2%) use with high and very high frequency of social networks to communicate with peers center, to share information and resources related with their classes and curriculum materials. Similarly, we have found evidence to suggest that students preferably used social networks to help peers in developing academic tasks. Spe-cifically, the scores are grouped by 25.2% of students say they use long enough or social networks for this purpose. Another finding of the study showed that those students from centers where teachers use the Internet more frequently in their classes, are those who often create study groups through social networks for homework, assignments and school projects.
