Abstract

Promoting the quality of life of children in the city acquires special relevance as core for building a more just and egalitarian society. This research is part of the line of investigation “Equity and Innovation in Education ”. Througth a mixed methodology, namely explanatory-sequential (Creswell, 1999; Creswell and Clarck Plan, 2007; Creswell et al., 2003), we make use of a quantitative instrument, Questionnaire for Assessing the Quality of Life in Childhood, which we apply to 1051 students from schools in the city of A Coruña. In addition, 3 interviews were conducted with political leaders in the local government in order to help us interpret the data. The results show correspondence with data from other similar research, Sabeh (2006), the data indicate that between the ages of 8 and 11 the perception of quality of life is higher in private school students and higher in girls than in boys. Political representatives corroborate these data and highlight the implications of social inequality and the urgent need to reduce it, but also declare the competence limitations of city councils and highlight all the measures undertaken during their term.
