Abstract

In the field of the house museums of writers, the house itself becomes in the majority of cases not only a mere recipient but also, as an architectural object, an excellent vehicle in order to plan a museological project concerning on the author and his work and time. Together with those residences which are preexisting, inherited or acquired by the writer during his life, it’s worth paying attention to the singularity of those new houses which design and building was made by the active, and creative participation of the same writer. Going so far as to work even as architects, decorators or gardeners, these writers involved in the design of their residences tried not only to accommodate the houses to their personal habits but consciously they thought about how to turn them into authentic portraits of their personality as artists. For this reason in the architecture of these houses keys and symbolic elements can be identified, of major interest for the understanding of the personal and literary career of their householders. Taking as base this dimension of the house as a reflection of an artist or creator, we can analyse the different categories that these houses offer, as they have arrived, and the possibilities of its integration as interpretive tools within a museological project.
