Abstract

The current hypermedia reality requires new ethical, social and educational rethinking that promotes democratic, critical and responsible principles. Therefore, education professionals must have all the knowledge that has been achieved by humanizing projects that integrate audiovisual content and digital tools in daily practice. In this paper, a descriptive methodology based on the review of materials on media education in the Spanish and Chilean contexts is presented. The main objective is to discover the media education initiatives and their instructional impact in both contexts. In addition, we put forth an invitation to reflect on future elements that can structure the literacy process within new global and digital citizenship. The paper ends with pedagogical and educational proposals on media education, values, the development of moral autonomy and the need to train people in media citizenship.
