Abstract
The analysis of the present state of the Galician language together with that of the sociolinguistic situation, constitutes one of the most important/noteworthy tasks of the Consello da Cultura Galega. The promotion of active bilingualism is advocated in addition to Galician-friendly classroom environments– a key element for curbing the loss of speakers. One of the factors which leads to a decrease in the usage of the language seems to be found in the early-learning stages and for which reason the option of preschool education through the medium of the Galician language is recommended. The empirical evidence has also led to the Consello positioning itself in clear defence of an education system for which the protection of the Galician language is a priority.
